The National Evangelical School in Nabatieh stands as one of the most distinguished private
educational institutions in South Lebanon.
For nearly a century, it has embodied the values of
academic excellence, openness, and moral education, becoming a true beacon of learning and
coexistence in the heart of the city.
Following Lebanon’s independence, the school witnessed remarkable growth. It expanded to include elementary, intermediate, and secondary levels, and became coeducational in the mid-1950s..
The school’s philosophy combined academic rigor with ethical and spiritual formation, earning it a leading reputation across the region.
Under the supervision of the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon, it promoted openness, respect, and cooperation among the diverse communities of South Lebanon.
During the Lebanese Civil War, the school faced one of the most difficult periods in its history. Despite bombings and displacement, it continued to provide education whenever circumstances allowed.
Its resilience became a symbol of faith in the transformative power of learning — a testament that education is stronger than war.
After the war, the school gradually reopened and resumed full activity, welcoming hundreds of students from Nabatieh and surrounding villages.
In the 1990s, the school entered a new era of modernization.
Its building in the Maydan–Marjeyoun Street area was renovated, classrooms were equipped with modern technology, and science and computer labs were established.
Today, the school is part of the Association of Evangelical Schools in Lebanon, operating under the supervision of the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon.
It offers trilingual education (Arabic, English, and French) and is currently led by Mr. Shadi Al-Hajjar, who continues to promote innovation, academic quality, and openness while preserving the school’s founding values.
For nearly a century, it has embodied the values of
academic excellence, openness, and moral education, becoming a true beacon of learning and
coexistence in the heart of the city.
The school’s mission rests on four main pillars:
* Academic Excellence – through up-to-date curricula and active learning.
* Moral and Christian Education – nurturing love, tolerance, and service to others.
* Dialogue and Openness – encouraging mutual respect among all Lebanese communities.
* Community Engagement – promoting civic and environmental awareness.
Throughout its history, the school has played a key social and cultural role in Nabatieh.
It organizes national celebrations, art exhibitions, and Christmas events that bring together families and students, symbolizing unity and peaceful coexistence.
It also takes part in environmental and awareness programs in collaboration with the municipality and local NGOs.
Since its foundation nearly a century ago, the National Evangelical School in Nabatieh has proven to be far more than a place of learning — it is a mission of faith, knowledge, and humanity. Rooted in love and guided by education, it continues to shine as a beacon of coexistence and excellence in South Lebanon, preparing generations to build a brighter and more united future.
